Local Mission Opportunities

If communion--done faithfully--is a sharing of ourselves with our neighbors, then community is the result of that sharing... it's a people and place so transformed by God's love that all life flourishes there.  Part of what it means to be Christians united in the one Body of Christ is that, as the Church together, we care for our community.  Listed below are some of the ways you can get involved with our church's efforts to help our neighbors and our community flourish.


Food & Hunger

  • Growing produce in the church garden, donated to DMARC Food Pantry

  • Supporting local refugee farmer through Beginning Farmer program

  • Hunger Hike

  • Food drives benefitting DMARC Food Pantry

  • Serving meals at Central Iowa Shelter

  • Providing groceries at Thanksgiving for families in need

  • Hosting community Thanksgiving Dinner at WDMCC

  • Hosting firefighter community meal

  • Packaging with Meals from the Heartland


Caring for the neighborhood

  • Routine cleanup of highway and WDM City Campus pond

  • Habitat for Humanity's "Rock the Block" events

  • "Adopt-A-Family" program during Christmas season, through WDM Human Services

  • Partner with "Children & Families of Iowa"

  • Various drives: personal care items; clothing; disaster kits; diapers; school supplies; Ronald McDonald House drive; etc.

  • Care Connection and Stephen Ministries, offering care for those who are hurting

  • Chore Corps, helping with facilities-related projects including lawn care, snow removal, maintenance, and setup

  • Helping Hands do light cleaning

  • Kitchen help

  • Therapeutic Thursdays, a mission oriented craft group
