Women's Ministries at West Des Moines Christian Church

In April 1999, the West Des Moines Christian Church Board approved a reorganization of the women's groups. The Women's Ministries Board was formed in June 1999 to oversee the women's groups. In 2006, the Board was revised to become the Women's Ministries Committee. The Committee is comprised of the officers and representatives of the current women's groups.

The purpose of the Women's Ministries is to provide opportunities for spiritual growth, enrichment, education and creative ministries to enable women to develop a sense of personal commitment for the whole ministry of the Church of Jesus Christ. It is to develop a deeper understanding of Christ's love and salvation for others and ourselves, and to provide channels of service to the church, the community and the world. We strive to include women of all ages. To share ideas, concerns or new group possibilities, contact the church office. Groups

Thursday Morning Crafts - This group of women meets weekly to make items to sell at our annual Bazaar and Bake Sale. Contact the church office for more information.

New Possibilities - The New Possibilities group gives support and provides fellowship opportunities for widowed, divorced and single women of the church. They meet at 9 a.m. the first Friday of each month for breakfast at the Mills Civic Hy-Vee and for lunch at local restaurants on the 4th Wednesday at 11:30. Women's Issues Book Group - They read and discuss books relating to women around the world to expand their knowledge of struggles women face, hoping to broaden their vision and open their minds to different situations. Newcomers are always welcome. They meet from 7 - 8:30 p.m. the 1st Thursday of each month in the library. Contact the church office for more information.

The Quilting Group - The Quilting Group is for all women interested in quilting while enjoying fellowship. They meet from 9 - 11:00 a.m.. the first Saturday of every month in the gym building. Contact the church office for more information.

Ministries

Tea Ministry - The Tea Ministry is a traveling "tea party". We visit the elderly at their residence with tea, cookies and conversation. Contact the church office for more information.

Loaf Ministry - New members of West Des Moines Christian Church are welcomed with a loaf of bread in a basket covered by a bread cloth delivered to their homes. Contact the church office for more information.

Helping Hands - Helping Hands provides cleaning help and plant care at the church and assists staff while enjoying one another's company. They meet at 9 A.M. on Monday mornings. Contact the church office for more information.

Food Ministry - The women involved with WDMCC Food Ministry prepare and deliver meals to new mothers, those returning from the hospital, those with hospitalized family members and those in need. Contact the church office for more information.

Card Ministry - The women involved with the card ministry send cards to church members as needed. Contact the church office for more information.

Prayer Shawl Ministry - The women crafters share prayer, devotions, and fellowship as they knit and crochet shawls for members. They meet at 9 A.M. the third Saturday morning of each month. Contact the church office for more information.

Special Events

Annual Bazaar and Bake Sale - The annual event raises funds for our church and community while sharing the talents and gifts of our congregation and outside vendors. The Bazaar is hosted in the month of November each year. See our church calendar or contact the church office for more information.

Ladies Annual Luncheon - Another fun event, hosted by the women of West Des Moines Christian Church with entertainment and a speaker. Contact the church office for more information.

Annual Garage Sale - The Annual Garage Sale is a fund raising event to support our church ministries and the community, usually held in June. Contact the church office for more information.
